FAQs

  • A plinth is a monolithic block that supports objects. They are often neutral and blend into the background, allowing the object supported by it to maintain the attention of the viewer. The Plinth Store plinths come in a variety of sizes, making them a versatile way to display artworks like sculptures, ceramics, retail products and event items.

  • The Plinth Store plinths are high-quality plinths that are carefully assembled, sanded and painted to make them beautiful.

Yours will be supplied fully assembled, and ready for use.

We don’t offer unassembled plinths. Those cheap online plinths that you have to assemble yourself have ugly joins and a really poor finish - you get what you pay for! Contact Rory for a quote.

  • Our standard plinths are made from 12mm MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard). This is the ideal material for painted plinths.

We can custom-make plinths in your choice of plywood. Contact Rory for a quote on custom materials.

  • Most of our standard sized plinths are kept in stock. If they are showing as available in the on-line store, there is a good chance that it is built and ready waiting for you. You are welcome to call me on 0428 966 086 to make sure we have what you need before you order.

  • No. When I finally sell enough plinths to reach the sales threshold, I will be adding GST to the prices.

  • Your plinth is created using a mitred cut to join the boards together. The two boards are cut with a 45 degree angle. When they are joined, they form a 90 degree right angle - the corners of your plinth.

The gap between the two boards is right on the corner, so when they are filled with putty, as all Plinth Store plinths are, the join is invisible. This makes your plinth appear sleek, smooth, and join-free.

This contrasts with unsophisticated butt joints that are simply the boards placed or 'butted' up against one another, revealling the ends of the boards, thereby creating unsightly joins. Many cheap build your-own-plinths use primitve butt joins that look unproffesional and detract from the beauty of the object they support.

  • Your plinth is designed to last for years with a little care. Here are some tips for keeping your plinth clean and extending its life.

    Cleaning

Your plinth is really, really white! Because of this, it has some special care needs.

Your plinth is surprisingly susceptible to dirty fingers - there is nothing wrong with it - it’s just so pristine that subtle fingermarks will show up.

The marks can be easily cleaned off with a damp cloth, but we reccommend wearing white gloves or having really clean hands when moving and touching your plinths.

Use a soft cloth and avoid using hard cleaners when cleaning your plinth.

If your plinth gets scuffed or scratched, don’t worry, it is possible for you to refresh your plinth with a new coat of paint, or re-touched over the blemish. Click here to see how to retouch your plinth with paint.

Avoid wearing clothes that have metal parts on the front of your clothing when moving your plinth. Trust me, they will make a mark if they touch your plinth. If you do get a mark, paint two coats of paint over the mark. Here are some quick tips for re-touching your plinth.

Regularly and gently dust your plinth with a soft, dry cloth to maintain its luster and prevent any scratches.

Spot-test any new cleaners on a hidden area to ensure they’re plinth-friendly.

    Position

Position your plinth thoughtfully to avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, heat, and direct sunlight.

When it’s time to rearrange, lift and carry your plinth with care to its new spot. Cover it with a blanket to avoid damaging the edges and corners.

    Avoid Water

While your plinth has been sealed with paint, it’s advisable to avoid getting it wet. Your plinth can be wiped with a damp cloth, but it shouldn't be allowed to sit in a wet or damp areas. Also avoid droplets of water sitting on your product.
