ABOUT
The Plinth Store offers high-quality, museum-grade plinths and display pedestals for artists, photographers, retailers, art collectors and events.
Our online store is supported by our pop-up showroom in Smith Street, Fitzroy which is open by appointment.
CRAFTED
The Plinth Store was created when the art gallerist, artist and photographer Rory Daniel needed plinths for his Fitzroy gallery. He quickly discovered that many of the plinths available in Melbourne featured unsightly joins due to a lack of plinth builders specialising in museum-quality plinths. So he made his own plinths for his gallery, with near-invisible joins at the edges.
Recognising the need for high-quality plinths, Rory made his plinths available to other galleries, artists and collectors. His client base has since extended to photographers and retailers who also have a need for beautiful plinths for their studios and stores.
Your plinth will be proudly handbuilt by Rory Daniel, with care and love in his Fitzroy studio, above the contemporary art gallery - Smith + Gertrude. It will be sanded at least twice, and painted three times before it gets to hold your objects.
He’ll take the time to understand your needs to give you informed creative help so you can settle on just the right plinth for your needs.

MUSEUM-GRADE
The 45 degree mitred joints give your plinths extra strength as well as a cleaner exterior - the fancy joints hide the any joint marks in the corner, making them almost invisible. This is much better than traditional plinths made with right angle joints which expose the unsightly sides of one of the boards in the join.
INVISIBLE JOINS
You’ll find flat surfaces on each side of your plinth - no nail holes, pins, screws or uneven surfaces.
Your plinths are finished with a quality flat paint that doesn’t detract from your artwork as they atop them.
